A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) - also called a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan - is a formal document prepared by your GP after assessing your mental health needs. It is the gateway to Medicare's Better Access initiative, which subsidises up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year for eligible Australians.
The plan sets out your mental health goals and includes a referral to a psychologist, psychiatrist, mental health social worker, or occupational therapist - whichever is most appropriate for your situation.
You do not need to have a diagnosis before your appointment. Your GP will assess you during the consultation and determine whether a plan is right for you.

You do not need a referral from another doctor to book with Prime Medic. Simply book a Mental Health Plan consultation, and your GP will conduct a full assessment during your telehealth appointment.
Your consultation runs approximately 20-40 minutes - longer than a standard GP visit, because your doctor will take time to properly understand your situation. After the appointment, your Mental Health Care Plan and referral letter are sent electronically to you and, if you wish, directly to your chosen psychologist.
